An exciting opportunity has arisen in the South Manchester Coroner’s Court
Applications are welcome from suitably qualified individuals for the position Coroner’s Clerk (full time), to work for Her Majesty’s Coroner’s Service for South Manchester. The Manchester South Coronial area includes the Boroughs of Stockport, Trafford and Tameside. The three Boroughs form part of the vibrant Greater Manchester Combined Authority region.
The service is located in dedicated accommodation, including offices and two state of the art court rooms with Jury facilities in 1 Mount Tabor, Stockport. SK1 3AG. Office opening hours are 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am-4pm Friday.
Greater Manchester South is a busy coronial district and the post will be on a full time basis. The number of reported deaths in 2019 was 2575, and the Coroner’s Office held 647 inquests. The majority of post mortem examinations are conducted at one of the local Hospital Trusts by Histo-pathologists.
The Coronial area contains sections of the M60 and M67 motorways as well as several major A-roads, main rail lines to/from London and the Metrolink tram network. The area also includes major sports arenas and retail and leisure venues.
The successful applicant must be well organised, have a strong attention to detail and have excellent communication skills. You will be able to provide a comprehensive, effective and responsive service to enable Her Majesty’s Coroner for Greater Manchester South District to fulfil her statutory duties.
You must be able to liaise appropriately and sensitively with bereaved families at every stage of the Coronial process, and communicate with legal and medical professionals on behalf of the Coroner.
The role involves working in a team along with a Coroner’s Officer to manage a case load of approximately 80 Inquest / Investigation’s, ensuring all appropriate witnesses are summonsed to Inquests. Creating statuatory forms to allow death registration to proceed. The role also requires ocassional Court Clerking and Reception cover.
Working effectively to given deadlines and the ability to manage own workload in conjuction with the rest of the team are also important, as is good computer literacy and the ability to use a variety of software packages.
