Stockport Grammar School are looking for a Cook/Chef to work as one of the team employed by the school to be responsible for the preparation of all food for school lunches and functions for staff, pupils and visitors on a daily basis.
A few of the main job tasks are to plan, prepare and cook food in a hygienic and safe manner, share in the cooking duties, to demonstrate a high level of skill and intelligence and to promote new ideas and to ensure that daily food quality is maintained and that food is prepared and cooked in accordance with the agreed menus.

- Purpose of the Job
- To work as one of the team employed by the school to be responsible for the preparation of all food for school lunches and functions for staff, pupils and visitors on a daily basis.
- Main Job Tasks
- – To plan prepare and cook food in a hygienic and safe manner
- – To share in the cooking duties, to demonstrate a high level of skill and intelligence and to promote new ideas
- – To ensure that daily food quality is maintained and that food is prepared and cooked in accordance with the agreed menus
- – To monitor food safety and maintain all necessary safety documentation
- – To be aware of allergens and special dietary requirements and risks of cross contamination and ensure detailed product knowledge is maintained and communicated to all relevant staff
- – To serve food when required
- – To provide catering services for additional functions both within and outside school hours
- – To monitor stock levels and report on requirements
- – To ensure that hygiene and cleanliness standards comply with both legislation and good practice
- – To ensure the kitchen area is left clean before the end of shift and ensure the security of all foods, chemicals and equipment
- Skills and Experience
- Essential:
- A Food Hygiene Certificate
- City & Guilds 7061/2 or equivalent or evidence of working to gain certification.
- Relevant catering experience in an education or similar environment
- Planning and organisational skills
- Creativity and innovation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Drive and enthusiasm
- Demonstrable flexible, proactive and solution focused approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Desirable:
- A First Aid Qualification
