The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions. HSE is Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety. It prevents work-related death, injury and ill health.
HSE’s Science and Research Centre in Buxton, Derbyshire deploys world-class scientific expertise, knowledge and capability to make a positive impact on the working world and to inform policymaking. Government Departments and private sector customers in Great Britain and overseas look to HSE to provide leading knowledge and expertise. HSE’s scientists develop research and evidence which underpin everything that HSE does.
HSE’s Commercial Team sits within HSE’s Science Division, which is mostly housed in Buxton. The Commercial Team are responsible for supporting organisations with extra training, publications, products, testing, monitoring and consultancy over and above that which HSE offers for free. Within the Commercial Team, the Marketing Team promote those offers alongside core safety messaging.
As Marketing Assistant in the Marketing Team you will be key to the delivery of the Marketing objectives within the Commercial Group and support the delivery of the Commercial revenue target. You will support the Marketing Managers and the Head of Marketing to plan and deliver impactful campaigns both internationally and across the UK. We are a friendly team and will provide support and mentoring. This is a great opportunity to work closely with experts and develop.
You will be focussed on delivering successful marketing campaigns and supporting the administration and delivery of conferences and events hosted by HSE and HSE’s attendance at external events.
Events are key to communicating safety messaging and raising awareness of offers to key audience groups. Events also give us the opportunity to engage with users of our guidance and gain feedback so that we can continuously evolve and improve. Each year HSE is proud to exhibit at major industry conferences, shows and broadcasts as well as host popular and informative seminars and events on topics of specific scientific interest.

Job description
You will support the delivery of a portfolio of marketing campaigns which contribute to HSE’s commercial objectives as outlined in the Commercial Strategy. The campaigns will need to be managed across diverse channels and will need to be delivered on time.
You will write creative social media to deliver best in class campaign content, working closely with the wider team to ensure content is audience-led and channel appropriate, according to HSE protocols and corporate identity guidelines.
You will evaluate campaign activity and report regularly to SD’s marketing dashboards as well as undertaking post-campaign analysis and producing recommendations for future activity.
You will work collaboratively with a range of colleagues across HSE to plan and deliver top-class events. This involves supporting on the planning and administration of the event, including liaising with graphic designers, stand-builders, printers, couriers, and conference organisers.
You may need to contact potential sponsors by phone to offer sponsorship packages and secure sponsorship for events.
Also you will need to attend the venue in advance of an event and set-up stand furniture and literature holders etc (and disassemble after the event), greet delegates and manage the registration desk, network with delegates and clearly explain our range of services.
You will develop and maintain confident working relationships with Commercial Team colleagues, wider HSE colleagues, partners, contractors, professional bodies, voluntary sector, local and national government bodies, national, regional, trade and local media, in order to support HSE PR and Marketing communications.
